Syngenta Promotes New Rates for Dividend Extreme, Cruiser in PNW Wheat

  • Evolving production practices across Pacific Northwest (PNW) leading to higher disease, insect pressure
  • Syngenta Seedcare recommends labeled rate of 3 oz/cwt Dividend Extreme® fungicide seed treatment; range of rates for Cruiser® insecticide seed treatment

Greensboro, NC, September 15, 2010 – With more growers across the Pacific Northwest reducing tillage and diversifying crop rotations, diseases and insects are responding with increased pressure on vulnerable wheat crops. In response, Syngenta Seedcare researchers recommend Dividend Extreme at a higher labeled rate of 3 oz/cwt to enhance protection against diseases like dwarf bunt, Rhizoctonia, Pythium and Fusarium. They also recommend Cruiser at a range of labeled rates from 0.25 to 1 oz/cwt that can be tailored to growers’ field needs.

“Seedborne, soilborne and foliar diseases, as well as wireworms, can interfere with the development of strong plants and healthy root systems," said Chad Shelton, Syngenta Seedcare crop manager. “With these revised rate recommendations, growers can better protect their crops from damaging pests early on to avoid losses in yield and quality."

At its enhanced rate, Dividend Extreme will now contain 4.5 grams of mefenoxam per 100 kg to increase activity against Pythium. It will also have 18 grams of difenoconazole per 100 kg to elevate protection against Rhizoctonia, dwarf bunt and Fusarium. In addition, Dividend Extreme can now be teamed up with ipconazole to specifically target certain Fusarium spp. and enhance germination rates.

“Our research has shown positive results when Dividend Extreme is applied with ipconazole," said Kiran Shetty, Syngenta Seedcare technical crop manager. “The two chemistries work well together and are able to improve activity against some Fusarium species. This helps break the Fusarium life cycle."

Syngenta Seedcare researchers also have revised Cruiser wheat rate recommendations to better accommodate specific field needs. The new rate structure is as follows:
  • 0.25 oz/cwt for wireworm protection under low pressure and improved plant vigor
  • 0.5 oz/cwt for wireworm protection under medium pressure and improved plant vigor
  • 1 oz/cwt for wireworm and early-season aphid protection, as well as improved plant vigor

“I need products that will protect my crop despite harsh conditions," said Syngenta® Voices Across the Plains grower Kirk Jacobs, Hamer, Idaho. “I use Cruiser and Dividend Extreme because they protect my crop both before and after emergence. This way, my wheat can be at its strongest when it has to stand against damaging Idaho winds."
